Chapter 10
Brian glared at Ariana with hatred in his eyes. His voice we cold and he sounded as if he wanted to shred her into pleces,
"Brian! Don't be like that-you've misunderstood Ms. Torry! I was the one who wanted to do it..."
"You're too kind for your own good, Eve, and that's why people keep walking all over you. I told you that you didn't have to see her!"
Ariana watched as Brian continued defending Evelyn. She land of expected it, to be honest. After all, Evelyn would always manage to get hurt every time Brian appeared.
Ariana had already sensed that something was wrong from the moment Evelyn fell to her knees. Still, she didn't mind playing along to Evelyn's tune and pushing things in her direction.
Ultimately, she needed to get Brian to hate her. He would then have to call off the engagement whether he liked it
or not.
"Ariana Torrey! I used to think that you were just a two-faced, backstabbing bitch, but I didn't think you'd be so evil as well! Eve has always had a weak body. If anything happens to her, I'll make you pay!" With that, Brian pulled Evelyn away and turned to leave.
Evelyn had had plenty of time to explain all throughout the hullabaloo, but she chose to remain quiet. In fact, she even cast an apologetic look at Ariana from time to time.
Still, Ariana was able to catch the hint of glee in Evelyn's eyes that nearly went undetected by the others. It was as if Evelyn was gloating in her face.
So what if Brian and Ariana were engaged? Brian was still in love with her anyway.
Seeing that, Ariana bent down to pick up the debit card from the ground and stopped the two from leaving. "Ms. Granger, you left your card behind."
Evelyn turned around. Brian also saw the debit card in Ariana's hand. He frowned and asked, "Eve, did you give her money?"
Evelyn bit on her lower lip and said, "I just... I didn't want you to call off the engagement because of me." Before Brian could respond, Ariana said, "Ms. Granger, this engagement will definitely be canceled. I'm sure that Mr. Lodge refuses to be engaged with a two-faced, backstabbing, evil witch like me. So, I won't be using any of this money at all."
Then, Ariana returned the debit card to Evelyn.
She wasn't daft.
Evelyn had purposely left her debit card behind. If things were to go her way as she planned, and Brian found out about it much later on, things would get even more out of hand next time.
"Let's go, Eve."
Brian didn't pick up the conversation. Instead, he tugged on Evelyn and left with her.
Back at the Torrey residence, Gwen was waiting impatiently at home as she paced around. "That Ariana... Where the heck did she go after leaving so early in the morning?"
Chapter 10
"Mom, if Ariana doesn't get married, doesn't that mean everything that belongs to the Torrey family will eventually end up in her hands? But you told me that Dad left all that money to me!"
Igor was antsy. He had already bragged to his classmates that he was going to be inheriting all of the Torrey assets and fortune. He wasn't going to be satisfied with just the measly five million dollars that his stepfather left for him and Gwen!
That would be preposterous!
Gwen's eyes glinted darkly when she heard Igor's words. "Don't worry. I've got plenty of tricks to make sure that she gets married to someone! Even if she doesn't get married to the Lodges, she can still get married to many other people in Gleaston!"
Ariana was one of the prettiest and most capable women In leaston. There had been many rich bachelors pining after her even before she got engaged to the Lodges.
If Brian really didn't want Ariana then, Gwen would still make sure that she was married off to someone else!
This way, Ariana wouldn't have the means to run Torrey Co, anymore, and the company would eventually fall into both Gwen's and Igor's hands.
While Gwen was still thinking up her dubious plans, Ariana walked in through the door. Seeing that she was back, Gwen immediately approached her and asked, "Ari, did Mr Lodge take you out just now? Have you both made up?
